Madi Barker

She/Her/Hers

Madi (she/her) is a recent graduate from Creighton University, where she received her Bachelor’s in Social Work with a secondary major in Graphic Design & Film and a minor in Theater. She has been passionate about social justice for as long as she can remember, and quickly became involved with Creighton’s Schlegel Center for Service and Justice (SCSJ) and the Intersections retreat (a program focusing on social identity and intersectionality) her freshman year of college. It was through those experiences where she found a love for DEI work…leading her to be elected as the DEI chair for her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She grew as a facilitator and translated those skills as a Social Work Practicum Student at the Center for Holistic Development, where she developed a capstone project surrounding LGBTQ+ competency for communities of color and assisted with youth programming in the North Omaha community. During her practicum experience, Madi participated in the empowerDIVERSITY program through Urban Abbey and Inclusive Communities, a leadership workshop for college-aged individuals focused on inclusivity, which inspired her to join the Inclusive Communities staff in September 2023.

Madi is very passionate about intersectionality, storytelling, and the intersection between the arts and social justice. She considers herself an active patron of the arts; she loves attending local and touring theater productions, and also worked part-time at Omaha Performing Arts as a Patron Services Representative for 2 years. Furthermore, she was the Teaching Assistant for Creighton’s Theater for Social Justice class, was a Stage Manager during her time at Creighton, and loves to do comedy/improv when she can. She is also passionate about filmmaking and photography.

Madi is a native of the Los Angeles area and loves the growth she has experienced since moving to Omaha. In her spare time, Madi likes to watch her favorite TV series, Law & Order: SVU, play video games with friends, watch/play volleyball, cheer on the Creighton Bluejays, rot on Tiktok, and enjoy a good brunch meal. She also loves the Muppets; “Man or Muppet” is her national anthem. Her favorite color is purple.
