Omaha Table Talk 2018 – Power Structures

Joslyn is pleased to host Inclusive Communities, and program partner College of St. Mary’s Department of Multicultural Initiatives, for an Omaha Table Talk (“uncomfortable conversations over comfort food”) that will delve into the power dynamics and imbalances that lead to and perpetuate racial discrimination in America, a central theme of Joslyn’s 30 Americans exhibition. Guests may explore the exhibition (5 pm), then enjoy a light meal (5:45 pm) and panel discussion (6 pm), moderated by Ashlei Spivey, Associate Program Officer, Peter Kiewit Foundation, and presented by Arvin Frazier III, Executive Director, College Possible; Mark LeFlore, Manager, Administrative Services, Douglas County Youth Center; and Precious McKesson, Community Advocate. Topics will include the pernicious underpinnings and effects of stereotyping, racially-driven biases in education, and the disproportionate incarceration of African Americans. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in facilitated small-group dialogue.

Registration will open January 29 at 9:00am.
