Omaha Table Talk | One Person, No Voice: Voter Suppression 2020

The United States has a history of suppressing the votes of minority groups. In the 21st century we still see methods of voter suppression being deployed across the country. The Voting Rights Act (VRA) was the most substantial protection for marginalized voters, that was until it was dismantled by a supreme court ruling in 2013. Shelby County v. Holder was a landmark ruling that deemed the VRA unnecessary in modern times. As a result, there has been a rise in different tactics shrouded in language sounding as though it is meant to preserve the integrity of our election, yet has the impact of disenfranchising minority groups. What is the state of voter suppression in Nebraska? In our nation? What do we look for, how do we advocate and how do we preserve the right of all citizens to vote?
