Omaha Table Talk: Food Access & Classism

February 21 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Some might wonder; what does making smart decisions about food have to do with class? Well we are so happy you asked. Join us on Thursday February 21st as we discuss the intersection of food access and class. As we begin to understand how, often, issues around class are inextricably tied to race and opportunity, it allows us to view conversations once thought of as simple, in more nuanced ways. Conversations about food deserts start to look different when we ask if one group of people are affected disproportionately to others. Questions like “why can I buy an entire meal at a fast food restaurant for four dollars, but not a healthy, balanced meal?” take on new meaning when you are struggling to make ends meet. The panel will dive into all of that and more with recommendations for action and solutions that can improve the well being of all of us.

Omaha Table Talk is a program which ensures everyone has a seat at the table – inviting all to take part in an open and honest dialogue about race, ethnicity, and other forms of difference, while enjoying a complimentary meal.

This event is free, open to the public (age 15 and older), ASL interpretation available, wheelchair accessible, and vegan/allergy-friendly. Registration is strongly encouraged so that specific diet requirements can be taken into account.
